GIVE A HORSE WHAT HE NEEDS AND HE WILL GIVE HIS HEART IN RETURN
Tamborine Horse Rehabilitation Retreat ( THRR ) is located in Tamborine Village on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It was created by Louise "Tozeland" Francis who has had a lifelong passion for Horses & for Animal welfare isues. The Retreat works within the local community to raise awareness of a range of equine related issues.
A Registered not for profit organisation, THRR Rehabilitates neglected, Surrendered & Slaughter bound horses. The aim of the Retreat is to find them appropriate adoptive homes. Horses arrive at the retreat from racing studs, slaughter yards, sale yards & as private surrenders. The Retreat assesses each horse & meets all medical, physical & emotional needs they have. Once in good condition, horses are placed at carefully selected homes where ongoing contact allows us to follow their progress.
One of the most important parts of THRR is raising awareness about equine issues. Members of the Retreat attend local community markets to provide information about our activities. In addition we try to educate people about the following :
~ The Inclusion of Horse meat in dog food
~ The Horse meat for Human consumption issue
~ The movement to ban jumps racing in Victoria
~The Incredible wastage associated with the Horse racing Industry
~ The Premarin-HRT Issue
~Protection of Brumbies throughout Australia
~ Demanding regular & Mandatory RSPCA inspections of Sale Yards
THRR Believes better education will deliver better welfare conditions for horses in Australia. We are committed to providing our local community with the information they need to make considered decisions when buying pet food, Placing a bet on a race or undergoing Hormone replacment therapy. In addition, we believe there should be more stringent controls in terms of conditons & welfare relating to the Auctioning of Horses at Sale yards
